Job Title: Research Assistant (Statistical analysis)

The appointee will support various research projects within the Center such as discovering biomarkers for degenerative diseases with human integrative analysis by conducting statistical analysis. Duties include analysing data sets using existing open-source tools; developing and deploying custom-made scripts or programs that integrate with other tools. The appointee will report to a team leader or his delegates and may work closely with graduate students or research staff. This is an excellent opportunity to immerse oneself into an inter-disciplinary field that brings together information technology with biology; maintaining good records of the analyses performed and attend project meetings as needed.
Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in mathematics/computer science or a related field. Interest in the field of life sciences would be beneficial but prior knowledge in this area is not required. Knowledge of R, Perl, Python, Linux-based systems and shell scripting and good organizational skills with an appreciation of software engineering practices and the ability to work independently are preferred. Familiarity with the administration of Linux systems including troubleshooting software installation, deployment, and execution would be an asset. Applicants should also have strong analytical, communication and interpersonal skills and be able to communicate effectively in English.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
Salary will be commensurate with qualification and experience. Medical and dental benefits as well as annual leave will be provided. Appointment will be offered on a contract basis, renewable subject to mutual agreement and performance.
