Hong Kong Generative AI Research and Development Center (HKGAI) is a new InnoHK R&D Centre established in October 2023 specializing in research and development of generative AI technology. With Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) as the leading institution in collaboration with local and international institutions, HKGAI aims to establish foundation model and a wide range of AI applications that holds the potential to revolutionize the way we live, work and interact.

Professor Yike GUO is leading two scientific research teams, namely HKUST Machine Creativity Lab (MACRE Lab) and Hong Kong Generative AI Center (HKGAI).  Funded by the University Grants Committee, MACRE Lab is working on a project titled “Building Platform Technologies for Symbiotic Creativity in Hong Kong”, which is one of the largest interdisciplinary projects on humanities, arts and technology in China. HKGAI, which is supported by InnoHK under the Innovation and Technology Commission, is the largest collaborative scientific research project in local history, involving six of the top 100 QS universities in Hong Kong.  These will be an important step to develop Hong Kong into an international innovation and technology center.  We are now hiring various research-related positions to join the teams.  By joining the teams, the appointee will have the chance to work with Professor Yike GUO, Professor Song GUO, professors from overseas universities and industrial R&D professionals from DeepMind, Huawei, IBM, Ping An and JD Research Institutes.

Major research areas are listed below: 

1.   Large Language Model (LLM)

  • Large Language Model Construction (e.g. pretrain, finetune, human-AI alignment, knowledge transfer, complex reasoning and long-context learning)
  • Modular and Multi-modal Models (e.g. Mixture of Expert and CLIP)
  • Intelligent Agent Construction

2.   Visual Large Model (CV-FM)

  • Automatic Generation of 3D Scripts/Scenes/Objects/Characters/Movements
  • Generation Acceleration Algorithm

3.   Music and General Audio Generation (Audio-FM)

  • Virtual Singer
  • AI Music Creation
  • Multi-modal Human-Machine Music Co-creation System (Multi-Agent Collaboration and Empathy)
  • Movie Dialogue and Sound Effect Generation

 

RequirementS

Applicants should have a master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Electronic Engineering, Information Engineering, Mathematics or a related field, with over 3 years of relevant solid experience in the R&D field.  The ideal candidate should be passionate about handling data with experience in distributed big data analysis and cleaning, and engineering with solid coding skills.  The appointee should also be familiar with MongoDB, frameworks such as PyTorch and deep learning especially generative algorithms, as well as be fluent in English and Chinese (including Putonghua).  Candidates with less experience but with a strong R&D record may also be considered. REMUNERATION AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

Salary is highly competitive and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits such as medical benefits and paid leave will be provided where applicable.  A gratuity will also be payable upon successful completion of contract with a duration of 2 years or above, where applicable.
